At many points in our lives, we need to trust the experts. For better or for worse, we just don\u2019t know everything — disappointing, right?<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nLet\u2019s call it a good thing. Maybe I\u2019m a bit of a know-it-all, but I have no idea how to fix my car, let alone fly a plane.<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nAnd yet\u2026 we see this issue come up over and over again. We ask for help, then question it.<\/p>\n

Doctors, lawyers, patients, pilots – in some cases, the experts are obvious. And yet, all of us have plenty of expertise to offer. Perhaps you\u2019re the world\u2019s leading expert on how you like your coffee served. It\u2019s likely that you\u2019re the global expert in your own preferred choice of footwear. If only someone would ask –!<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nPoint: Figure out exactly what you need to know, then figure out exactly who has the answer.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Trust the expert<\/b><\/h2>\n
If you\u2019re asking for an expert opinion and then ignoring it, you\u2019re just wasting everyone\u2019s time. And yet, it happens all the time. Visit a personal trainer, then opt out from her suggested training plan because it seems too hard. Meet with a financial planner and then ignore his advice. Ask customers what features they\u2019re interested in and then build something else instead.<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nPoint: When the right expert gives you the answer, it\u2019s often a good idea to take it seriously.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

- If your longterm customers tell you they\u2019re not happy with your new service model, listen.<\/li>\n
- If every single one of your employees rates their job satisfaction as low, listen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
In short<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Sure, sometimes it\u2019s good to get a second opinion, but there\u2019s a reason we turn to experts. Listen to their feedback, respect them and the process, and use what you\u2019ve learned. Otherwise, you\u2019ll quickly find that trust works both ways — and you don\u2019t have to be an expert to predict the results.<\/p>\n
