Plus, \u201cthe $500-million-a-year industry has grown by about 10 percent annually in recent years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are now so many available assessments, it can be difficult to determine which one to use when. You might think about this as assessing either for skill and knowledge (competence) or personality traits and soft skills (behavioral).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common competence assessments may be offered individually or for a larger group of candidates or employees. These assessments typically test:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job knowledge \u2014 an accountant might be quizzed on accounting principles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cognitive ability \u2014 to gauge logical, verbal, and numerical reasoning<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adaface.com\/skills-assessment-tests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skills assessment<\/a> \u2014 measuring skill level in say typing speed, computer literacy, writing, data checking<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physical ability \u2014 for professions that require strength and stamina<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the most common behavioral assessment in the workplace is the personality assessment. Among these <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sogolytics.com\/blog\/assessing-assessments-why-were-driven-to-quizzing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cosmo quizzes of the office set<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the most common are:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) \u2014 maps personality against the following groupings: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extraversion vs. Introversion,\u201d \u201cIntuition vs. Sensing,\u201d \u201cThinking vs. Feeling,\u201d and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judging vs. Perceiving.\u201d This test is \u201cused by more than 88 percent of Fortune 500 companies in 115 countries,\u201d per the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themyersbriggs.com\/en-US\/Products-and-Services\/Myers-Briggs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myers-Briggs Company<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hogan Personality Inventory \u2014 uses true\/false questions to assess <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Service Orientation,\u201d \u201cStress Tolerance,\u201d \u201cReliability,\u201d \u201cClerical Potential,\u201d \u201cSales Potential,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managerial Potential\u201d and more<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DiSC Behavior Inventory \u2014 is a shorter test used to profile people in terms of<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dominant (D),\u201d \u201cInfluential (I),\u201d \u201cSteady (S),\u201d and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compliant (C)\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IPIP-NEO \u2014 assesses people against a Big Five Model of Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kolbe Index \u2014 seeks to help identify strengths and innate abilities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other behavioral assessments might focus on integrity, motivation, and emotional integrity. Though some of those attributes can be revealed in the above tests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is actually great debate in Human Resources circles about the respective value of each assessment type. As digitization changes the world of work at a rapid rate, some in the field argue that behavioral testing is more predictive of future success. After all, how can you make decisions based on someone\u2019s skill level, when you can\u2019t predict what skills will be needed for jobs in a decade? Whichever side of the fence you want to sit upon, you\u2019re still going to want to know how to make your assessments useful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Making the Most of Workforce Assessments<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using any of these available assessments doesn\u2019t guarantee success. Like any business metric, you need first to decide goals and objectives.
