After all, your employees are the ones who are putting their sweat and tears into building your brand and company, and they deserve to be appreciated, too!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4999 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sogolytics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/rawpixel-651326-unsplash-1024x762.jpg\" alt=\"rawpixel-651326-unsplash\" width=\"631\" height=\"469\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is it important to show gratitude to your employees?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Showing gratitude to your employees increases <a href=\"\/employee-satisfaction-survey\/\">employee satisfaction<\/a> and makes your employees happier &#8212; that much is obvious. But that\u2019s not all showing gratitude is good for &#8212; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employees say that being thanked by managers also helps them build better relationships, and increase the trust they place in their higher-ups<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On top of that, a whopping <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">69% of employees state that they would work harder if they felt their efforts were better appreciated<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p>The bottom line? When you show gratitude to your employees, everyone benefits!<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to show gratitude to your employees<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal is to show gratitude to your employees in a way that makes sense for them, while being as authentic as possible in your approach. Here are a couple of Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts to keep you on the right track: <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DO: Recognize your employees\u2019 hard work<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t have to implement a game-changing work-from-home policy or splash out on expensive company trips in order to show gratitude to your employees &#8212; simply recognizing your employees\u2019 hard work will do the trick. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p>The trick here is to be specific with your recognition or praise, and to tailor your approach to your employee. For instance, \u201cThanks for rushing out that report last minute &#8212; I was really impressed with how detailed the financials were!\u201d will work a lot better than \u201cGreat job on that report.\u201d On top of that, consider whether your employee would like to be recognized in front of the entire team, or if this is someone who might prefer to be praised in a one-to-one conversation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DO: Allow for flexibility in your policies<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We mentioned this point previously when talking about showing gratitude to your customers; the same point applies to appreciating your employees as well. This is fairly straightforward: say your employees are caught in a tricky situation (e.g., someone\u2019s sick at home, or something has cropped up with their kid at school). Allowing them to take the time to rectify the situation (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being completely rigid and unyielding about your workplace policies) will help immensely.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DON\u2019T: Build some employees up at the expense of others<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These days, there\u2019s plenty of hype around the concept of gamification, and companies are increasingly using gamification in order to recognize and appreciate their employees. The way these systems work differs from company to company, but generally speaking, employees are awarded points which they may use to redeem rewards. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Gamification is an interesting concept, and one that\u2019s worth exploring, but be sure NOT to stack your employees on a leaderboard, and pit them against each other. Doing this essentially builds some employees up at the expense of others; you can bet that your employees who are scraping the bottom of the barrel will feel demoralized and unmotivated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DON\u2019T: Schedule time for showing gratitude<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the thing about showing gratitude: it works best when it\u2019s timely and relevant. If you want to appreciate your employee for a job well done, do it immediately after they\u2019ve completed their project or task.
