Too often, organizations rely exclusively on operational metrics rather than business metrics. Ideally, both types of data should be used to balance the analysis.<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p>A few examples of operational metrics used to evaluate L&amp;D success:<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Number of employees enrolled in each training<\/li>\n<li>Course\/program completion rates<\/li>\n<li>Number of hours spent learning<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>While these are useful data points, they don&#8217;t paint the full picture. Simply showing up isn&#8217;t the same as acquiring new skills! In fact, these are sometimes referred to as &#8220;vanity metrics&#8221; because they can make a program look good on the surface level.<\/p>\n<div class=\"div-minispacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Still, if people don&#8217;t show up, we can&#8217;t study the deeper metrics!
