A detail panel opens on the right.<\/li>\n<li>Review the details: <strong>Display Label<\/strong>, <strong>Field Type<\/strong>, <strong>Created By<\/strong>, the <strong>Formula<\/strong>, a short <strong>Description<\/strong>, and the <strong>Source Fields<\/strong> it reads.<\/li>\n<li>Review <strong>Refresh Configuration<\/strong> for the Schedule and when the field was <strong>Last Refreshed<\/strong>. For an <strong>On Demand<\/strong> field, click <strong>Refresh Now<\/strong> to update the values immediately.<\/li>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/editderived2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Formula<\/strong> to reopen the field as you configured it to amend the formula. You can change the label, type, strategy, or formula.<\/li>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/editderived3.png\" \/><\/p>\n<li>In order to <strong>Delete<\/strong> the field, click the three-dot menu and select <strong>Manage Fields<\/strong>. The modal lists every field in the Directory.<\/li>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/editderived4.png\" \/><\/p>\n<li>Hover on the field and click on the Trash icon to remove the field. You are asked to confirm before it is removed.<\/li>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/editderived5.png\" \/>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"example-block-container blue-shade\">\n        <span class=\"example-block-content\"><span class=\"example-block-header\">For example:<\/span>Opening the detail panel for <strong>Recent Purchase date<\/strong> displays the <strong>Latest Activity<\/strong> formula, Purchase Date listed as its source field, and the date the field was last calculated.<\/span>\n  <\/div>\n<p><em>The field detail panel \u2014 formula, type, source fields, refresh configuration, and the Edit Formula action.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"section-2\">Import records when Derived Fields exist<\/h2>\n<p>Because derived values are calculated for you, there is nothing to import. Derived Fields are not listed in the field-mapping step when you import contacts or activity records.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you import new records, the Derived Fields that use them are updated automatically.<\/li>\n<li>The usual import progress is shown while the import runs.<\/li>\n<li>If the import finishes while the calculations are still running, the derived columns remain in a loading state until every value is ready.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"example-block-container blue-shade\">\n        <span class=\"example-block-content\"><span class=\"example-block-header\">For example:<\/span>When a new file of purchases is imported into Purchase History, <strong>Days Since Last Purchase<\/strong> and <strong>Purchase Recency Bucket<\/strong> are updated automatically. A customer who has just bought again moves from Lapsed back to Recent without any manual intervention.<\/span>\n  <\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"section-3\">Delete a field used by a Derived Field<\/h2>\n<p>A field cannot be deleted while a Derived Field depends on it. Attempting to do so displays a warning that identifies the affected Derived Fields and asks you to resolve the dependency first.<\/p>\n<p>To proceed, either amend each Derived Field so that it no longer references the field, or delete those Derived Fields.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/editderived6.png\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"example-block-container blue-shade\">\n        <span class=\"example-block-content\"><span class=\"example-block-header\">For example:<\/span>Both <strong>Recent Purchase date<\/strong> and <strong>Purchase Recency Bucket<\/strong> read the <strong>Activity Date<\/strong> field. Attempting to delete <strong>Activity Date<\/strong> lists both fields and prevents the deletion until they are amended or removed.<\/span>\n  <\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"section-4\">Where you can use Derived Fields<\/h2>\n<p>Once the values are calculated, a Derived Field behaves like any other Directory field and is available wherever your fields are already used:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Filters<\/strong> \u2014 narrow your list to a calculated group, such as every Lapsed customer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dashboards<\/strong> \u2014 chart how many customers sit in each recency bucket, or total spend across the base.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reports<\/strong> \u2014 analyze the values without recalculating them manually.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exports<\/strong> \u2014 include the calculated values in your exports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Design<\/strong> \u2014 pipe a value into a survey question, or show and hide questions based on it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution<\/strong> \u2014 personalize and target your outreach through mail merge, pre-population, and automation rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"example-block-container blue-shade\">\n        <span class=\"example-block-content\"><span class=\"example-block-header\">For example:<\/span>If a User wants to re-engage customers who have drifted away, an automation rule distributes the reactivation survey only to contacts whose <strong>Purchase Recency Bucket<\/strong> is Lapsed, and each email opens with the name taken from <strong>Reactivation Email Name<\/strong>.
