Youth Voting Trends: A SoGoStudy

by Sacha Gragg

Estimated Reading Time : 2 mins

No matter who you are, you have some critical questions to be answered. Depending who you are, you might get practical (Where are my keys?), you might get philosophical (What is the meaning of life?), or you might get curious (What’s the deal with the Bermuda Triangle?). At Sogolytics, we’re practical, philosophical, and curious, and so we’ve launched our SoGoStudy Series to find the answers to some of the most critical questions we face.

Who’s in Charge: What drives youth voting?

Today — and every day — one of the most important questions is about the future. What will it be like? Who will be in charge? Will things be better or worse?

While we can’t exactly see the future or provide you the answers to every question, we can offer some unique insight into a big one: What trends are impacting young voters? More specifically, who are youth voters, what do they care about, and what motivates them to vote in elections?

Youth Voting Trends: The Power of Neutrality

Introducing our first ever SoGoStudy! Take a look at the numbers beyond the questions and get these answers and more. Based on careful research, our team of experts crafted this in-depth look at what exactly makes young adult voters tick and how they approach the question of modern voting.

Between the increasingly connected global marketplace and the skyrocketing progress of technology, we as individuals have more and more opportunities to rise up and and make our voices heard regarding the issues that matter most to us. Yet, to bring about change requires not just being heard but influencing policies and leaders through our votes. Take a look at how 18 to 25-year-olds view the effectiveness of voting, understand some of the challenges these voters face, and discover the theme of neutrality that dominates this generation.

Discover study highlights such as:

  • Even though 63% of young adults are registered to vote, 26% of them don’t actually vote in elections.
  • Respondents with no party affiliation are 16% more likely to vote than Democratic respondents and are 21% more likely to vote than Republican respondents.
  • Concerns over healthcare are the top issue that would inspire young adults to vote.
